They also have the reverse of "book with CD's".

Linux-Mandrake 7.1 came with books on CD included with the install CD's.

It's outdated now but maybe something else like this is around.

Here's my initial Linux experience, maybe it will help you.

Month 1-3:

Had no idea how to set-up and get things going except what was in my Red
Hat book.
VERY FRUSTRATING because of my own inexperience.

This is the time where you just need to stick to it and be persistent -
don't give up.

Month 2-6:

I know there's a way to do xxxx, but I can't remember/don't know the
command.
Used a LOT of search engines during this period to find what I needed.

Month 5-8

Finally got a feel for how things work and know know where to look when
needing help.
Decent understanding of system configuration and where to tweak to get
things working.

After 3 years I can get just about anything running with a couple of
exceptions but still
have problems with kernel updates - go figure !

I haven't written a real program since the 1980's so I no longer
consider myself a programmer.
Programing skills are EXTREMELY helpful for Linux but not a necessity.

You couldn't pay me to switch back to Windows.

Best of Luck and remember to stick with it,

Bob
