Hi Amy! WELCOME to the wonderful world of Linux!!!

On to your question. YES, any of the distro's would be just fine and
work well. When you buy one of them a book comes with the package. Right
now RadHat v8.0 is out there and it isn't a CD, but it is 6 CD's. 3 of
which is just for the install, 2 contain the source code for all the
packages and 1 CD for the docs. Any and ALL info you will need is on
those 6 CD's.

Major distro's out there are : RedHat - Mandrake - SuSE - Debian
There are secondary distro's that are just as good too! All of the
distro's are boxed with the info book on how to install with pertanent
info about that distro and the CD's come in the box with the manual. If
you are looking for info from any of the retail souces in Pgh about the
distro or you are looking for support from any of the sales people in
the stores, good luck! You can go into any of the stores like Circuit
City - Walmart (sometimes) - Amazon.com - college book store - Staples -
Office Max - computer show - computer sales and service and get a copy
of one of the major distro's (RedHat normally I have seen)...

Now for the best place for information and help on Linux, WPLUG!!! AND,
your question about wanting to start someplace and had to ask that
"Pre-Beginner question", we ALL started there sometime or another!!!
Your question is quite welcome...

I hope this helped you out somewhat. I know I kind of skirted around the
question and didn't give you EXACT answers, but Linux is widely
distrubted and any retailer wants your business. Even if they can't help
you out with questions...

If you have any more questions feel free to ask them here!!! This is a
pretty friendly bunch of people that will help...

Good luck with your learning Amy...
Frank

PS - If you wait till next months Installfest, you may be able to talk
someone into giving you a copy of the CD's. Just make some arrangements
here with someone to meet you there with goodies in hand.
