Or, in that case he could just start another X session like so:

startx -- :1

Took me a while to track down how to do this, but the -- :1 means "open it 
on display #1" (as opposed to display #0, your first display).

great for keeping a graphical browser open while playing fullscreen games, 
if your video hardware can handle it :)
