Hello everyone...
I'm a linux newbie, with RedHat 7.3 as my first distro, been lurking on
the list a few months and decided with my first real 'head-scratcher', I
would post here and intro myself by jumping into the fire so to speak.
Here is the issue I have: When inserting an audio CD into the drive,
and logged into RedHat 7.3 as any other user than root, kscd ( or any
other player I designate to autoplay cds) freezes. After noting that as
root, the inserted cd recieved cddb data in kscd and played just fine.
I looked into the running processes under the non-root user case and
noticed a process called autorun. After killing autorun the inserted
cds ran just fine.
I looked into the autorun package and found a note in the info field of
the package manager that read....
> If you want to give users (instead of just root) the autorun ability,
> you'll need to add user, exec options to the CD-ROM line in /etc/fstab.
So I went into /etc/fstab and changed the cdrom line from:
> /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660
> noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
to
> /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660
> noauto,owner,kudzu,ro,user,exec 0 0
This didn't seem to work. Being unsure of the structure and purpose of
those options, and not finding anything in a google search that shed any
light other than to do what I have done, does anyone here have any
ideas? Did I even edit the cdrom line correctly? Should one of the
other options already there have been removed? (The noauto looks
suspicious)
