Another approach would be to just run xmms on the client and export
your music from the server via NFS, AFS, icecast, etc. For security,
you can set up a VPN over SSH (see
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/ppp-ssh/index.html), and only export to
clients on the VPN.
