Bluecurve is just a GUI theme which is intended to make KDE and GNOME look 
alike (which is actually not a bad idea for new users migrating from certain 
*other* OSes--since it kinda looks like a certain other OS--but it can get 
annoying or confusing for other users).  Obviously, staying in runlevel 3 
will ignore Bluecurve, but in a GUI environment, other themes can be 
selected.  I just set my KDE settings to about the same as what I'd had going 
from 7.1, and everything seems kosher.
