[wplug] need help with partitions

Most probably not, but I won't swear on it. I've done this same 
installation on ~40 Thinkpads over the last months and never had a 
problem with the partitions. The only difference in this one was that 
we created two FAT partitions. Could mkfs.vfat over an existing 
partition touch the partition table? It shouldn't have anything to do 
with it!

After installing RedHat8.0, the only tool that wrote to the partition 
table was XP's disk manager, and that seems to have spread chaos. 
Before trying to recreate that *&^@ FAT partition from XP, the table 
was fine... I wonder, is it *so* hard for someone to write a proper 
partition table handling tool? Aren't the positions and formats of 
these things standard? Why do things get ever so messed up?

Thanks for your suggestions, the guy will have the machine reimaged 
today, so we'll have to install everything from scratch. But I still 
wonder what created this mess...
