Sometime in June Bill assaulted the keyboard and produced:
| I'm with Lance on this...I've seen a lot of folks diss OpenOffice, and I
| just don't get it. Half my company uses linux and half Windows with
| OfficeXP. I have had few issues exchanging files with the Windows
| folks, and these problems have been more a product of my own ignorance
| than any technology shortcomings.
|
| And for the record, my box is a frankenstein monster of legacy parts,
| nothing particularly modern or fast. OpenOffice takes a few seconds to
| start, but I've never had it lock my box.
|
| Might the issues others are experiencing be jvm related? I'm using the
| standard Sun version.
disclaimer: i don't normally use word processors and spreadsheets.
so i write mainly in latex using vim, but i do get that random word or
excel attachement. so i use open office to view/convert them. it works well
for this, but in my expirence oo is slow and buggy. i'm not using it on
particularly slow computers either. however, this might be a function of
the version i'm using. i've only used what redhat included, so it might be
an old, poorly compiled version. i tried once to compile it on my own,
right after 1.0 came out, but i was unsuccessful.

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless,
whether the mad destruction is brought under the name of totalitarianism or
the holy name of liberty and democracy?
