can you log in as root and check that frankh is still in /etc/passwd (and 
/etc/shadow)

You also might want to try logging in from the console. You can leave it 
in runlevel 5, and press <ctrl><alt><F1> which will take you to a console 
login prompt. <ctrl><alt><F7> will take you back to X.

I don't think this is related. char major 10, 134 is /dev/apm_bios
