[wplug] laptop battery indicator

Hello all,

I have Red Hat 9.0 running on a Toshiba S-255 laptop but the battery
indicator does not work. I think something is not right with apm as I
get this as the output:

[soni at localhost soni]$ cat /proc/apm
1.16 1.2 0x03 0x01 0xff 0x80 -1% -1 ?
[soni at localhost soni]$ apm -v
APM BIOS 1.2 (kernel driver 1.16)
AC on-line, no system battery

While "googling" about this I read somewhere thatI might have to upgrade
the kernel. So do I really need to that or can the battery indicator
work without the kernel upgrade.

any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
