Yeah but the problem seems to be that Linux doesn't know how to handle my
particular device (vendor f3d and product 401).

hmm.. doing a modprobe usbserial vendor=0xf3d product=0x401 gives me this
in /var/log/messages:
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered
for Generic
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter detected
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter now attached
to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter detected
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter now attached
to ttyUSB1 (or usb/tts/1 for devfs)
Jul 30 17:09:49 pluto kernel: usbserial.c: USB Serial Driver core v1.4

But using ttyUSB0 or ttySB1 in minicom gets no response to at commands.

How do you access your phone/modem once it's configured?
