He has already tried the ,#401 trick.   He even tried to get a serial connection working, but he has not been successful with that.  

And the responses to his questions on the tivocommunity.com website have been less than helpful.

I only have a modified series one, but ethernet support is included with 
the latest software. I'm not sure about wireless however.
I have that set as my area code and everything works fine.
