[wplug] Compaq Presario 1220 -- Distro suggestion ?

Sometime in July Ray Cefola assaulted the keyboard and produced:

|     I inherited a Compaq Presario 1220 Laptop.
| Installed Mandrake 9.1 'cause it came with a 
| magazine.  Fonts are terrible and icons are
| quite large and hard to read.
|     So, I'm looking for distros that will

i like redhat, but that's what im familiar with. if you're not that
familiar with linux, you might want to download a couple distros and try
them out. i was under the assumption that mandrake was a little better
looking than most, but i really don't use it much. the fonts in redhat have
improved considerably over the last few iterations.

i don't know when the next installfest will be held, but you might want to
bring it to one.

this webpage, i realize it's in french, discusses installing redhat 7.1 on
this model laptop:

so this might indicate that the latest version, 9.0, will behave in a
similar fashion.
