[wplug] Compaq Presario 1220 -- Distro suggestion ?

Hi All;
    I inherited a Compaq Presario 1220 Laptop.
Installed Mandrake 9.1 'cause it came with a 
magazine.  Fonts are terrible and icons are
quite large and hard to read.
    So, I'm looking for distros that will
function on this machine.  Any suggestions
will be greatley appreciated.
