How about some more info please?

What version of linux are you using ( kernel and distribution)?
What version of X are you using?
What type of video card are you using?
Are you using the SVGA driver or one specifically for your card?


This info will help better understand your situation.

I did read your posting to LinuxNewbie and some of the info was there.

I think there is a problem with most accelerated video drivers requiring
16bpp resolution to work.
I'm not sure if this is still the case or if it was only true for some
drivers - but you might want to try setting
your XF86Config file to use 16bpp and see what that does.

The folks at X state to use the latest version before reporting problems so
you may want to upgrade.
