I wasn't the original poster (I think), but you're probably looking for 
User Mode Linux (http://usermodelinux.org/) or Bochs 
(http://bochs.sourceforge.net/)

If you go ahead and implement something like that, I'd looove to have a 
HOWTO from your experiences :-)
