I think you'll find most (all?) major PC manufacturers do not officially
support Linux on the desktop.  The only exception I can think of might
be Dell.  They've changed their position a couple times and I'm not sure
where they are right now.  There a number of reasons for this lack of
support, some good, some bad.  However, I've personally never found a PC
model that cannot run Linux and installing on most newer PC's is usually
very easy.

If you're looking for hardware support for Linux, your distribution is
probably the first place to look.  If you've bought a commercial version
of Mandrake, Red Hat, SuSE or the like, they will usually offer
installation support for a wide variety of hardware.  Otherwise, mailing
lists and user groups like this one tend to offer some of the best
support available for any Linux version.
