[wplug] Bibtex question

Sometime in December Doug Green assaulted the keyboard and produced:

| Hi all-
| Very brief bibtex question: how do I generate "et al" when I have too 
| many authors to list? Bibtex does funky things with the arrangement of 
| character if you just write the author entry as "Author, Name et al"... 
| what is the correct way to do this? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

clarification question. do you want the etal thing in the text of the
document, or do you want it at the end in the list of references?

by in the text i mean something like:

  as clearly shown by other authors (mendoza et al. 1990), the goat
  projectile system has many advantages.
