Sometime in August Henry Umansky assaulted the keyboard and produced:

| Try adding this to httpd.conf:
|
| AddHandler cgi-script .pl

i had this.

| If it still doesn't work also add this:
|
| <Directory "/home/harrold/public_html">
| AllowOverride None
| Options None
| Order allow,deny
| Allow from all
| </Directory>

this doesn't make much sense to me. specifically:

| AllowOverride None
| Options None

doesn't this prevent cgi scripts from being executed?

fwiw i tried the above and got the following:

You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either
read-protected or not readable by the server.
