[wplug] Mozilla and load

I'm well aware that Mozilla is a big resource hog, but it seems to be
a little unreasonable at this point. The debian packaged mozilla is
very sluggish, even in general but especially when complicated pages
are involved (e.g. mapquest). I downloaded the latest Firebird build
(not packaged), and it feels a little faster, but not by much. An
uptime while getting a page with some images showed load average of
above 1.8!!

I have a few questions:

Has anyone else experienced this? Did I just not notice while I was in
school? Could it be a problem of the processor doing what the video
card should really be doing?

Is it normal for XFree86 to increase processor useage when Mozilla is
running?

Can anyone suggest a reasonably fast browser? I used to use w3m almost
exclusively, but that has no javascript support.
