I have been spending a couple of days at home with a bad back. I have gotten
some of work email and it has MS Word documents in it. I have saved them
and tried reading them in OpenOffice (OO). It went poorly at first, but it
improved when I added the MS truetype fonts from my windows partition. I am
a big user of Tahoma. There were also problems with people sending me
documents using WingDings. Also fixed when I installed MS truetype fonts.
I fixed those and things got better but there were still problems with
bulleting and various indenting. I have not fixed those yet, but I suspect that
given the documents we use I cannot seemlessly share documents with others
in the office yet.
We are also big on change tracking. I think OO supoorts it but I have not
figured out how to use it. I did figure out how to read comments. That was
a draw. It was different but not worse or better.
As of now I prefer using OO on my linux box, but that is partially due to fact
that I have a nicer monitor at home and a faster box overall. I can scroll
this file blindly fast.
