[wplug] killing process that will not die

so my advisor called me into his office this morning and asked me why
mozilla wouldn't die.  we tried:

kill -9 pid
killall mozilla-bin

which failed.  since the parent process was init, i thought killing parent
would be a bad idea. the process wasn't a zombie, at least according to
top, so i don't really know our attempts to kill the processes failed. can
anyone else provide some information?
