	While I haven't messed with it in a long time, I know that KDM (the
KDE login manager) used to support the auto-login portion.  No idea of the
present status of this or other login managers as it's generally pretty
unsecure.  Look at Control Center -> System -> Login Manager -> Convenience.
Getting an application to start is a matter of settings in the particular
desktop of choice in any of various "dotfiles".
