[wplug] Oracle 8.1.7 on RH7.3?

I've been running Oracle 9i on linux with no problems for quite some time.
And, of course, it beats the pants off of running it on Solaris and SPARC
hardware, because of the hardware speed difference.

Now, about the 8.x install problem. I ran into that a *long* time ago.
There was an environment variable that had to be set, and then it ran with
no problems. I can't remember exactly which one it was. But I have a
vague recollection of it dealing with preloading, but I'm not entirely
sure. I haven't run 8.x in a long time.

Of course, 9i was not without its own bit of annoyance. It wouldn't even
install unless you had 512 Mb of memory. So you couldn't even install and
use a small database for development purposes without 512 Mb. At the
time, all our machines were 256 Mb. At least it gave an excuse to
upgrade. ;)

Sorry I couldn't be of much more help.
