Giggle, gee that was really useful, and no I am not being
sarcastic. I am an independent publisher. I have a pretty
good technical background that use often but not day to
day. Technical things seem to just make sense to me.

Through my travels through independent publisher land, 
except for a few people I know, independent publisher
land either small or large scale seems wedded to either
the Mac or secondly the PC running Microsoft software.
As I comptemplate getting out of the Microsoft World
and going dual boot where Windows is kept around mainly
to deal with those who deal in the Windows world and make
it easy for them.

Mainly what most people I know want to do is get and
send email around, often with large art work attachments
and the like. They would like a world that is virus free and
where people weren't so paranoid that a "jpg" attachment
causes worry. They want it to work simply and easily.

I want to acheive this. The only sticking point I find right
now is that people who deal with art via computer mostly
use PCs running Windows. One is even pretty much a
Windows wizard. The high-end people use MACs which
are "sort of BSD under the hood". 

So far I am drawing blanks on good linux publication software.
Things where one could produce art and stuff that was close
to camera ready copy one could take to a Printer. Although I
have gotten good art desults with GIMP that do look nice. 
IN spite of its being kind of  "modeful" and reminding me of
EMACS (which I was trained on and like) I have able to show
people how to use it and produce neat stuff. 

I am looking around for other stuff, and wondering if Corel has
dropped much of their linux stuff or not. The Corel Graphics suites
which ARE LIKE Oracle in that they big, powerful and use lots
of resources do produce stuff one could take and use for purposes
of publication... So I am wondering has anyone dealt with issues
like these.
