Dear all,
I have a little pet project going and would like some help. I have my wife's old laptop and want to convert it into a hard disk audio player. Okay, no problem. I have installed linux (RH7.3) on the machine and tweaked the system to get the pcmcia ethernet card as well as the sound working. Now it is hooked up to my audio system. If I boot up xmms on the laptop (now known as remote) and start playing mp3 files, life is good and it would appear I have met with success. However, I want to be able to control the laptop from my desktop via my home network. My desktop (now known as local) has a dual boot with RH and XP. So I boot up the local into XP and get my hand-dandy Xwin32 to connect to the remote machine via ssh. Connection goes fine and when I launch xmms, the window appears. However, when I try to play an mp3 file, I get an error saying the sound card is not configured properly. After some detective work, it would appear as though the remote machine is trying to play the mp3 file on the local machine. Is there a work-around that ne1 could think of (perhaps using telnet and just forwarding the display?).

Thanks in Advance,
Nik
