[wplug] The price of connection - DSL modems

Hello,

If you look on Ebay you will find the Westell for around $36. They are
used but there is not much to go wrong with one. It is pretty much a
dumb box. It bridges (converts) Ethernet to G.lite ADSL on the phone
line. The nice thing about picking Telerama for your DSL provider is
that they do not use PPPOE to establish the IP connection, so if you
have DHCP on your box it is plug in ethernet and you are online. I
would recommend you either get one of the Cable/DSL routers like the
Linksys or D-Link boxes if you have more then one computer. Or use
IPtables firewall on a single machine. These will give you protection
from the bad guys.

I have DSL from Telerama and love it.

Subject: [wplug] The price of connection - dsl modems

Hello Wpluggers,
As you can tell i use telerama for my service provider. i would
like to get
dsl service through them but am not happy about the price they are
asking. Can
you give me any leads/sources for dsl modems that telerama is asking for
a
Westell Wirespeed A90-2000, which is $225.00? Is there another brand of
dsl
modem that is as good but cheaper price?
Also, is there anything i should look out for as i search for
alternatives?
Especially concerning Linux compatability. Any help or additional
information
you chaps can offer will be certainally appreciated. Thanks in advance.
