I have not yet used Gentoo, but I have many friends who swear by it.
Supposedly they have seen massive performance increases. At least
three of them are hard-core *BSD users and big Linux bashers, but
have said that they will now put Gentoo on their primary systems.
That's an unbelievable recommendation. Also the portages system
seems very nice, similar to the ports system used on BSD systems.

I will be trying it next week and I will give my opinion then.

Subject: [wplug] Gentoo Linux

Has anyone installed Gentoo linux. I was wondering how involved it
was
and if there was a performance gain over other distros. I have a copy
of
their LiveCD, but I have only ever installed Red Hat and Mandrake.

Thanks
