It's nothing unusual, actually. Try updating a loaded winNT box with Win2K 
without a complete re-install, and you'll get similar results. I think it's 
just silly of Redhat to follow that path and make during the setup the 
implicit false promise that "Upgrading is ok".

It never was. I'd be interested to hear experiences from users of other 
distributions that *can*  be upgraded properly. (ok, BSDs excluded) :-)
