hey matthew.

|memtest86, hdparm, sysutils, lm-sensors, sensord, chkrootkit,
^^^^^^^^^^
running right now-this will take a while.

i'll run chkrootkit next. i'm not familiar with sensord/lm-sensors or
sysutils. is there a howto or something which discusses these?

|/var/log/{syslog,messages,etc} (look for weird messages), various
|sections of /proc (look for error counts of IDE devices, or similar), a
|large bat (gremlin-smashing!), a book on General Relativity (probably
|useful for gremlin-smashing too), or a new game that lets you spend
|hours with your computer (Unreal Tournament 2003, perhaps?).

there were some strange errors with an ide device. so i took it out and
plugged it into the computer i'm currently using. the computer more
recently locked up with out that drive.

i just put a goat in the freezer. i hear they are quite effective against
gremlins when frozen.
