[wplug] auto logins?

hi.
i'm in the process of finishing the setup a linux box that will be for 
general use at home.  i want to make is so that after booting it will 
auto login, yet give me the option to log out of the "general" account 
and graphically login as root.  i have thought about a "blank" password, 
but even though it will be comfortable behind a linksys firewall i'm 
still leary.  any suggestions.  the box is running suse 8.1 with grub as 
the boot loader.

here's the short of it:
1. how do i auto login (graphically) yet be able to graphically login as 
root at another time?
2. also can i make the machine hibernate without causing major problems?
