If your WinXP installation has two partitions (i.e. you have a C:, a D: 
and an E: drive for the CDROM at the very least), then you can install 
linux by sacrificing the D: partition. If you do not have a second disk 
partition you can empty and use for linux (i.e. if the only drive 
except for removable media you can see in Win Explorer is C:), then the 
only solution is to repartition, which can be done (not 100% securely) 
with Partition Magic.

If you already have a second partition on your disk, that page pretty 
much describes your situation. It does not describe the SuSE installer, 
mind you.
