There's an online book on parallel programming that might help.  It's on
parallel design in general, but has a chapter on MPI.  Very good, recommended:

Also, for reference, check out:

William Gropp, Ewing Lusk, Anthony Skjellum, "Using MPI: Portable Parallel
Programming with the Message-Passing Interface, second edition," MIT Press,
1999.
