Just to clarify:

Pitt does give away free CDs of Microsoft OfficeXP, FrontPage and a number
of other applications. See this two links for a complete listing--
http://technology.pitt.edu/software/msstudents.html
and
http://technology.pitt.edu/software/toolkitcd.html
These CDs are avaliable year round for students.

Pitt also recently opened a new computer lab in the old Masonic Temple that
has 20 Linux workstations running in it. This is the beginning of an
attempt to start integrating Linux into the university's computer system.
If there are many pitt students on the list who want to support linux at the
university, they should probably make it a point to use these new
facilities.
