Sometime in February yankoc assaulted keyboard and produced...

|search on the entire drive for "grub.conf" returns nothing. How can I add it

when you boot do you see the bluish redhat splash image?
grub.conf should be located in /boot/grub. there is also a link in /etc to
this file. if lilo is what is installed you can use that.
