It all depends on what you're looking to monitor... Etherman and Tcpdump
are good for raw packets. Etherape http://etherape.sourceforge.net
provides a nice visual of what's going on in realtime. I believe there is
a web based package called nagios http://www.nagios.org that also does
this kind of thing too. It's more of a network management and uptime tool
though.
