[wplug] noisy laptop

Hi all-
Over the past several months I have observed that my laptop (Acer Travelmate 
602TER) is become more and more noisy. There is constant whirring sound- like 
a fan or perhaps a harddrive. I have had no harware problems per-se, and 
everything is working fine. I was wondering if there is something (like apm 
or some other kernel module) that allows my harddrive to stop? It became more 
noisy (or I noticed it more) after I installed Debian (had RH7.1 previously). 
Do you think there is something going on, or is this just "the way it is"?
