[wplug] CUPS or lpr?

I have been using CUPS since I went to Mandrake 8.0. It has worked very well
for me. It has its own configuration tool so you do not need printtool. Most
applications use an lpr command to print and that is supported.

I'm setting up printing on my laptop (Debian) and wondering if it matters 
which printing system I install. Is there any major difference between CUPS 
and lpr, and are there any compatibility issues between them? I realize that

CUPS is newer, but lpr seems to be default for most applications and tools 
such as printtool. Please advise... thanks.
