In the block devices section, do NOT enable support for IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM
drives. Turn in SCSI Emulation support. In SCSI Support, turn on SCSI
CD-ROM and generic support. Recompile, install new kernel, reboot. When
your deck comes back up, you will no longer be able to use the /dev/hd?
device files to access your CD-ROM(s), but the /dev/sr? devices will.
Then you just need to install cdrecord and mkisofs.
