With verizon DSL, all you would need is a PPPoE client for Linux and a web
browser.  You would need to use a 9x machine to run your initial
configuration for your account setup and your settings, then just drop that
info to the linux machine.

I dropped Verizon before I had to set it up on a Linux machine, otherwise I
would most likely have the info you need.  You could use a LRP distro, I've
seen a few dummy images that have the PPPoE module preloaded.  I personally
use a LRP (running on a Compaq Deskpro DX4/100, 32mb, no H.D.) with Stargate
DSL (bridged, no PPPoE, static IP) that acts as my gateway/router/firewall.
My next project for it is to install port sentry on it.

i'm not really posting a question. i was just trying to inform the poster
about a complication they might run into while setting up verizons dsl
service under linux. i asked the list just under a year ago about setting
it up under vmware, but noone knew (or cared to share the information
:)) at that time.
