Most higher level languages are fairly cross-platform, certainly the ones
we are discussing here.  Especially since none of them have a native-code
compiler implemented that I know of at this time.

Calling it readable perl is insulting it, Python's a bit more than that.
I am no Python fan, but I have to give it some credit.

Ruby and Python would both be good candidates if he wants to learn a bit
more about programming in the process.  Well, a little bit.

Maybe in terms of quick-hack but not in terms of CS.
