: Has anybody had experience setting up cable modem internet service from AT&T
: Broadband using their RCA modem provided & NIC?

I'm unbfortunate enough to live in an area where it's 128k IDSL or cable
modem, so I'm stuck in the same boat that you are. @Home requires that you
authenticate using your account name (which will map you to an IP address).

In /etc/dhclient.conf, add this line:

 send dhcp-client-identifier "XXXXXXXXXXX-Y";

Be sure to change those X's and Y's to your actual account code (it should be
on your setup sheet or the paper you signed when they installed the service).

Once this is complete, dhcp should do the rest -- setting up the default
gateway, getting your hostname/IP setup.
