If you are running kernel 2.1.18 or above (hopefully you are ;) you should
check out the modutils package.  Caldera is based on debian I believe, so
you can probably apt-get install modutils.  At any rate, download and
install modutils and read the enclosed documentation which encludes
examples and you should be able to fix everything up.
