[wplug] Realtek 8139 PCI card

Has anyone ever installed a Realtek 8139 PCI NIC on linux? Redhat 7.0 does not have support for my card and I do not know how to try linux out and learn without readily available web access. http://www.scyld.com/network/rtl8139.html says that I have to build a driver, which I have no experience doing and I am told that it is a lot of work -- I am a newcomer to linux. Could anyone give me step-by-step instructions on how to build such a driver or, better, point me towards a linux distribution that supports my NIC (and can share a HD with a win98 partition without misbehaving).
Thanks,
- Will
