I seem to recall seeing this kind of thing with a reversed IDE cable...

have you tried swapping parts with your friends? it could be that the
memory, cpu, or videocard is bad. if you have access to parts you should
try this. unplug all of the drives and unnecessary cards (nic, sound,
etc). see if it boots with the bare min. (cpu, ram, video). if it doesnt
then try swapping, one by one, the cpu, ram, and video card. if all that
fails, then there is probably something wrong with the mb.
