Nice thing about Debian is that it automatically (and/or
manually) maintains menus for not only WM's, but other
things that use menus. So if I swap WM's, it'll still
reflect the packages I've installed.

I generally alternate between Windowmaker and blackbox.
Otherwise, I have a cycle; when the newest eye candy WM is
released, I'm always very impressed and grab it and try it
out for awhile. Then, after a short honeymoon, I usually
just go back to one of The Two. Blackbox is really small
(though not extremely so), lean and fast and yet looks
pretty sharp. It's very easily configured and tweaked. It
looks really clean with lot's of available colors (for
smooth gradients), but it may not be the best choice for,
say, 8bpp unless you steer clear of the gradients. Small as
it is, there are some pretty miniscule WMs out there now. If
I need/want desktop functionality, I augment with a desktop
such as Gnome. When I want a more graphic heavy WM, I use
Windowmaker. My tastes change.

I am contemplating writing a WM. I've an itch for features
that no sane person would likely be interested in.
