[wplug] the joys of pnp modems

For the last few weeks, I have been unable to use my ISAPNP modem under
Linux. I had previously been able to use it without a problem, but then I
upgraded to kernel 2.4.1. (Yes, I did remember to compile support for PNP
devices.) For awhile, I could apparently use it when I rebooted with
kernel 2.2.16, but not with the new kernel. Then I started mucking about
with irq's and I can't get to from either kernel. I ran pnpdump -c>
/etc/isapnp.conf and isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf to get the port and irq for
the modem, and then ran setserial with the values I got from that. Still
no luck. I entered the irq and port into my /init.d/serial file for
/dev/ttyS1 (since my modem is COM2 under Winbloze) and then rebooted the
box; still no luck. When I ran isapnp, I got a different value for port,
but the same irq.
Any clues? I'm running SuSE 7.0, if that means anything.
