when you say traffic do you mean you can telnet/ssh/whatever to anywhere
in the world except the server. can you even ping the server from the
client?

have you checked the servers logs to look for connection attempts in
/var/log/messages and /var/log/secure (at least thats where they are at in
redhat)?
