It does not necessarily mean you have been broken into.  More than likely,
the relay is simply wide open.  You do not need to run sendmail (or any
mail daemon) to send email, only to receive.  Since it looks like you
are using some flavor of Mozilla to do your mail, you would not need to
run a mail daemon.
