You don't need that bulky stuff anyway.

Sure you do.  Use a null modem cable to connect your
PC serial port to serial A on the Sun box (IPCs and
IPXs have strange ps2-looking serial ports I believe
so you may need to dig around for an adapter).  Then
use minicom to talk to your serial port (9600n8). 
Once connected, turn on the sun box.  You should get
at least as far as an ">" prompt.  This is the old
prom.  Type "n" to get into the newer version and you
should see an "ok>" prompt.  From there, you can test
some components, look for disks (probe-scsi) or boot. 
My guess is that they don't have an OS installed.

Chances are your NVRAM will be dead.  This means that
the machine will not "remember" its mac address,
hostid, etc. between power-cycles.  If that's the
